Testing
Find out before it strands you
A test costs you a conversation. Being stranded costs you an evening. If the car has been hesitating, we would rather tell you the battery has a year left in it than sell you one you did not need.
What happens when we arrive
We load test the battery
Resting voltage tells you almost nothing. What matters is what the battery does when the starter actually pulls current from it, and that is what the test measures.
We check the alternator
Output at idle and under load. A charging system that is not keeping up will flatten a brand new battery within days, and this is where that gets caught.
When this is the call to make
Any one of these is enough of a reason to pick up the phone. You do not need to be sure.
- The car cranks slower than it used to
- The battery is over three years old and untested
- You have been jumped once already this month
Straight answers
Do you charge for the test?
Testing is part of the call when we come out. What you pay for is the visit and the work, and the test is how we decide what work is actually needed.
What if the battery is fine?
Then we tell you it is fine. Selling a battery to somebody who does not need one is how a service business runs out of repeat customers.
Not just a jump pack and a wrench
Hybrid and EV 12V
The small 12V battery in a hybrid or electric car still strands it when it dies, and most roadside outfits will not touch one. We will. The traction pack is a workshop job and we say so.
Start stop and AGM registration
Newer vehicles need the replacement battery registered to the management system. Skip it and the car keeps charging to the old battery's profile, which shortens the life of the new one.
Memory saver on every swap
Radio presets, the clock, and stored settings survive the battery coming out. Some vehicles still need a short relearn afterwards, and we tell you before we start.
